Galleria dell'Accademia

Galleria dell'Accademia is best known for housing Michelangelo's David, one of the most famous sculptures in the world. Founded in 1784, the museum's collection includes other works by Michelangelo, as well as an impressive array of Renaissance art, musical instruments, and historical artifacts. The statue of David, originally intended for Florence Cathedral, was moved to the Accademia in 1873 to protect it from damage. Visitors can also admire Michelangelo's unfinished 'Prisoners,' which provide insight into the artist's creative process. The Galleria dell'Accademia offers a deep dive into the artistry of the Renaissance and Michelangelo's enduring genius.
